MEET JOHN SULLIVAN

HARD WORKING FATHER AND HUSBAND:

John Sullivan is a hard working father of three children, Kelly, Brendan, and Sean and a dedicated husband to his wife Sharon. John and his family have lived in Westland for many years and his wife Sharon has been a public school teacher in Wayne-Westland School District for over 25 years.

AN EXPERIENCED LEADER AND PUBLIC SERVANT:

John Sullivan has always gone to work in service for the people of his community. From 1999 to 2007 he served residents of Wayne County on the Wayne County Commission. As a Wayne County Commissioner John worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life of every resident across the County. He fought for affordable drinking water, expanding mental health services, financial transparency of our tax dollars, funding public safety programs, and more.

AN ATTORNEY AND ADVOCATE FOR THE PEOPLE:

John Sullivan received his J.D. and law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. Throughout his career as an attorney John has always advocated for what is right and stood on the side of equitable justice for all. In the courtroom he has worked to protect the most vulnerable people and their families from people who would do them harm. He has focused on helping low-income individuals by protecting their rights and giving them fair representation in court.

A VOLUNTEER IN OUR WESTLAND COMMUNITY:

John Sullivan has volunteered with many different charitable groups and organizations in our Westland Community. He has given back his time to do good for others and lift people up during time of need. John has helped our kids in need by serving on the Westland Youth Assistance Advisory Board and as a Youth Mentor. He has also volunteered his time as a member of the Westland Historical Society, Westland Democratic Club, Local Development Finance Authority Board and Westland Tax Board of Review.  John and his Wife Sharon, who also serves on the Westland Historical Commission and on the Westland Parks and Recreation Board are tirelessly giving their time to our community.

AVID DETROIT AND MICHIGAN SPORTS FAN:

John Sullivan is an avid Detroit sports fan and loves our Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons. As a UofM graduate, he's also a big Michigan football fan. When he's not hard at work in the courtroom representing clients or volunteering in the Westland community you will find John out at Comerica Park catching a Detroit Tigers game or at home watching Michigan beat Ohio State yet again in college football.

MY STORY

John Sullivan is a Husband to his wife Sharon, Father to three kids, Grandfather, attorney, counselor, community advocate, volunteer, and has a strong passion for serving his community. John and his wife Sharon have lived in Westland for many years with their kids.


John received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1992 and his Law Degree from the University of Detroit in 1995. John has been running his own law practice, The Law Office of John Sullivan, PLLC for almost 27 years representing citizens on a wide range of issues. He has concentrated the bulk of his practice to serving the most needy in our socieity by representing the poor, elderly and mentally ill in probate and juvenile/criminal matters.


John was elected to serve four terms as a Wayne County Commissioner, representing the County's 11th District in Western Wayne County for 8 years. During his time on the county commission John was elected by his collegues to serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Board for his final two terms. He also chaired several committees and brought millions of dollars in county improvements to his commission district.


John was also appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm to serve the citizens of the State of Michigan as a member of the Parole and Commutation Board. During his two years serving on the Parole and Commutation Boad John's legal expertise was also utilized on many occasions when he was asked to serve as an Administrative Law Judge conducting Parole violation hearings for the State.


John currently serves the citizens of Westland in several capacities. He has been appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve as a member of the Westland Local Development Finance Authority Board, the Westland Tax Review Board (currently serving as its chairman) and the Westland Youth Assistance Advisory Board. John also serves as a Youth Mentor for the Westland Youth Assistance Program and he is a volunteer member of the Westland Historical Society.


John Sullivan has strong family and community values. He has raised three children, who are all now college graduates and has been married to his Wife, Sharon, who is a Wayne-Westland School Teacher for nearly 30 years. John enjoys watching and rooting for our local sports teams and volunteering to serve his community during his free time.
